Biography
Born in rural Quebec, Alexandre Dostie is a self-taught artist, poet, and filmmaker with a distinctive background. His short films have been showcased around the world, including at Sundance, Clermont-Ferrand, Tampere, and TIFF. This strong public success has also been recognized by festival and academy juries, who have honored his work with numerous awards (Canadian Film Academy, IRIS Quebec Cinema, Toronto International Film Festival, etc.). Interest in his films is also evident online; Mutants (2016) has been viewed nearly 700,000 times since its release as a Staff Pick Premiere. As a poet, his first collection, Shenley (2014), published by Éditions de l’Ecrou, is in its third edition. The work has since been used in numerous plays and dozens of public readings across French-speaking Canada.
