Biography

After earning a master’s degree in Cinema, Ollivier Briand worked as a programmer at the Arte channel before becoming a teacher. His first screenplay, Maîtresse, earned him the Paris City Screenplay Award and led to him directing his first short film. He then produced and directed his second short film, Quebra-cabeça, with the support of the Lisbon City Council. This ironic portrait of a woman obsessed with a stranger’s suicide won the Jury and Audience Awards at the Fécamp and Courts-en-Champagne festivals, respectively. Passionate about fantasy, Briand wrote his first feature-length screenplay, Messe basse, which orchestrates the cruel rivalry between two women in love with a ghost. The film was directed by Baptiste Drapeau in 2020 and starred Jacqueline Bisset and Alice Isaaz. His third short film, Sous la mousse, blending horror and dark humor, allows him to continue his work in genre films and reconnect with the childhood world he particularly loves.
