Biyography

Mizgin was born in a Kurdish village in Mardin, Turkey. She worked as a journalist for six years before transitioning to filmmaking, focusing on short films and documentaries that explore themes such as women, displacement, and family, often within political and historical contexts.

Her documentary A Fatal Dress Polygamy gained wide attention after its festival run, reaching over 1.6 million views on YouTube. Her debut feature, I Flew You Stayed, received multiple awards, including Best Documentary of the Year from the Turkish Film Critics Association (SIYAD), Best Documentary at the Amed Documentary Film Festival, and the Mirella Galetti Award in Italy.

She holds an MA in Digital Documentary from Royal Holloway, University of London, and a diploma in Therapeutic Arts and Creative Arts Child Therapy. Alongside her filmmaking, she also offers psychological support to children and young people through creative arts practices. Based in London, she is currently working on her second feature-length documentary, My Mothers’ Tale, which is supported by the Sundance Institute.
